Tours in Nuuk - Færingehavn
Færingehavn
Færingehavn – called Kangerluarsoruseq in Greenlandic.
Known to some as Nordafar. And to everyone who visits, a simply unforgettable place of history.
Step ashore at Færingehavn and be transported into a world where raw nature meets abandoned history – a hidden gem south of Nuuk. Once a bustling hub for the fishing trade, it has now been reclaimed by wilderness. Founded in 1927 and formerly home to up to 1,000 inhabitants, today this abandoned fishingstation stands as a monument to a bygone era.
It takes us just over an hour of sailing to reach the site. Once there, you will have about two hours on land to explore the old fishing station, where the silence roars louder than any city’s noise. Nature has slowly reclaimed the area, and the man-made structures now stand softly blurred by time and wind. You can, with caution, step inside some of the old buildings, where peeling paint and empty rooms still hold countless memories.
Keep an eye on the horizon, you might just spot a whale breaking the ocean’s surface in the distance. And if you’re feeling adventurous, maybe take a dip in the clear water on the way back to Nuuk – so don’t forget your swimwear!
