Upernavik is an ideal destination for travelers seeking a perfect balance between comfort and true Arctic adventure. Here, you experience the magic of being far off the grid — intensified by the town’s high northern latitude and the sun’s complete disappearance for three winter months — while still feeling connected to the wider world of Greenland.

The sense of life and community is strong. Upernavik is surrounded by nine settlements — more than any other town in Greenland — and together they are home to more people than the town itself. In summer, lively maritime traffic links these communities, creating a dynamic and authentic Arctic atmosphere.

Arriving in Upernavik by small propeller aircraft is an experience in itself. The runway lies high above town, and as you land, the landscape immediately unfolds before you: a vast bay scattered with thousands of islands, the dramatic Upernavik Icefjord to the north, and the world’s largest bird cliffs, Apparsuit, rising to the south. The town also offers an open-air museum that tells stories of both colonial and Viking history, and above all, a welcoming community of Greenlanders, each with their own unique perspective on life in this remarkable place.

We do not offer traditional excursions in Upernavik. Instead, we focus on authentic, meaningful moments — such as arranging a local choir performance in the church, or a short drive to the airport area, where guests can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Upernavik and its surrounding landscape.
